  • Frank Beamer was a cornerback for Virginia Tech in the 1960s, and when his playing days ended, he went straight into high school coaching. Beamer had an aptitude for his new vocation, and it would elevate him to the head coaching job at Murray State. Beamer won the OVC title in 1986, which was just what his resume needed to get him the head coaching gig at his alma mater.

Beamer guided the Hokies from 1987 to 2015, and he did not just bring respectability to a forgotten program; he brought them titles. Under Beamer, Virginia Tech went to 23 straight bowls and was a game away from the National Championship in 1999. The Hokies would win seven conference titles and 11 bowl games, with Beamer winning five conference Coach of the Year honors.

Where would Virginia Tech football have been without him?

We are proud to nominate Frank Beamer for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
