If you take one look at the Siouxsie & the Banshees the quick reaction is to view them as a Goth Band. Looks are certainly deceiving in this case, and though that does describe their look and a component of their music that is hardly all that they were.

Often when we look at music that was recorded thirty years ago, it feels that it was recorded thirty years ago. It doesn’t mean that we can’t appreciate it, but it may give it some feeling that we are listening to music with a dated quality. With the music of Suicide, those who may be hearing it for the first time may have a hard time believing that it was done thirty years ago, or understand where a lot of today’s music came from.

If there was a Hall of Fame for misinterpreted sarcasm set to music, Randy Newman would have been a lock a long time ago. As such, the Singer/Songwriter with the biting sense of humor has found himself waited longer than most for the accolade of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
Many of Laura Nyro’s songs became hits; though ironically not in the version that Nyro herself sung. An influential songwriter who touched many artists, Nyro left behind a long legacy of Singer/Songwriter material, yet did so in the vein of a Poppish, R&B style. She is far from the best known artist enshrined in Cleveland, but those that knew her respected her.

Inducted in 2012. From New York City, New York, U.S.A.
