With all due respect to Rock purists, there really is little doubt that at present Jay-Z is the top contender of the 2020 list of Hall of Fame candidates. The man with many monikers has been one of the most dominate Rap artists of the past ten years and he is beloved by critics, the mainstream, and the streets.
Although Incubus has achieved their share of hits and acquired a solid fan base, Incubus has always been a little disrespected. Rarely, has their albums been considered mandatory by the critics and though they have performed well they have had a bad reputation in some circles; well, mainly because they were able to sell albums. Regardles, of the criticism, Incubus is a very capable Alternative Metal band that has shown far more diversity than they got credit for. Should they get half of the credit that they deserve in the next ten years, Incubus could make a very strong case for induction.
With a progression of Indie Rock to solid opener to headliner, the progression of Guster has been on a solid uphill clime for over a decade. With stylish Pop hooks and an Independent Rock spirit, Guster proved to be the little band that could. With that said, they still have a lot more climbing to do to make a serious run for Hall contention.
It could be argued that after Grunge ran its course that the band Garbage was able to meld more styles together than anyone else without sounding like that is what they were doing. This really shouldn’t be a surprise considering that three of the members are accomplished producers. The triumvirate found the perfect lead singer with the Scottish siren, Shirley Manson and the band collectively known as Garbage has struck gold ever since. Chances are they still have solid albums ahead of them, but the real ace in the hole is one of their members, Butch Vig, whose producing accolades deserve some kind of acknowledgement from the Hall.
