Before she was a news anchor in New York City, Robin Scherbatsky was a teen star in her native Canada as Robin Sparkles. It may not be well known that this was a play on the real life Alanis Morissette who had a brief career as a teen pop queen in Canada, before her image and sound were completely overhauled. Sparkles had a few minor hits (“Let’s Go to the Mall”) that naturally had a year long mall tour and an artistic turn with “Sandcastles in the Sand”. What was far more humorous was when she teamed with Jessica Glitter (Nicole Scherzinger) on a Canadian children’s program with more sexual inneundos than in a Sex and the City episode. Her singing career ended when she entered her Grunge period and tanked at the 84th Grey Cup. Oh Canada, indeed! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: How I Met Your Mother (2005-14) Actors: Cobie Smulders Songs you might remember: Let’s Go to the Mall Sandcastles in the Sand Why you should vote for her: This was a hysterical character on a very successful Sitcom. Why you should not vote for her: She only made it in Canada. {youtube}

Wait a minute…this is an Elvis Presley movie, where he doesn’t play a singer? That role fell to Stella Stevens who played a stuck up club singer named Robin Gantner in Girls, Girls, Girls. Sadly, what works against Robin is that none of the music she recorded is worth remembering. It should be noted that one of Elvis’ great songs, “Return to Sender” is on the soundtrack. Too bad, he doesn’t qualify for this one. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Girls, Girls, Girls! (1962) Actor: Stella Stevens Songs you might remember: None from this candidate Why you should vote for her: Elvis shrapnel. Why you should not vote for her: She is barely remembered for her performance. {youtube}

In what we thought was one of Adam Sandler’s better films, he played Robbie Hart, a kind hearted wedding singer whose real goal is to write songs. He sang quite a bit in the film, gave us new material and chummed up with Billy Idol in the film’s final act leading us to believe that he might make it as a successful songwriter. We may have just talked ourselves into pushing for this induction. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: The Wedding Singer (1998) Actor: Adam Sandler Songs you might remember: You Spin Me Round Grow Old With You Why you should vote for him: Music was a big part of his life, and we don’t have that many Singer/Songwriter candidates. Why you should not vote for him: If he did make it was likely as a songwriter…we don’t have a contributors section here. {youtube}

Who knew that Grandpa Simpson had a previous fling! Rita LaFleur (Anika Noni-Rose) was apparently an early love of Abe and was a singer at a club where he played piano. As they were reunited, it turned out that Rita still pined over Grandpa Simpson for all these years. Funny, we never pictured the old man having it in him! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: The Simpsons (2012) Actor: Anika Noni-Rose Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for her: Only for the Simpsons factor. Why you should not vote for her: From the music of Springfield this is on the lower end of the spectrum.
