The Artists

Chanticleer

Loosely based on a French play from 1910, Rock-A-Doodle was an animated box office bomb with the main character being a rooster who becomes a musical sensation in the mode of Elvis Presley. Sadly for the creator, Don Bluth, this triggered a string of failures, but we did like Glen Campbell’s voice as the rooster in question. At least it wasn’t a total loss. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Rock-A-Doodle (1991) Actor: Glen Campbell Songs you might remember: Sun Do Shine Why you should vote for him: The voice of Glen Campbell was well cast. Why you should not vote…

Charlie Rogers

Elvis Presley joins a travelling carnival where…he finds a way to sing. Everything that happens in this film is straight from the textbook of Elvis filmmaking 101. Frankly, we thought this was awful, but again there are many who loved everything that Presley ever did.

Charlie Waffles

Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) was an alcoholic womanizer on Two and a Half Men and we loved every minute of it! One of the times that we laughed out loudest was when the man who made his living doing commercial jingles, found that there was a lot of money to be made as a children’s singer; hence we have “Charlie Waffles” who didn’t sound like any kids singer we remember! We actually wish that this persona made more appearances, if for no other reason than to hear those songs again! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Two and A Half…

Chemical Toilet

How many people listened to a song and determined that it took no talent to become successful and wanted to form a band despite having an obvious lack of talent? Come to think of it, we feel the same every time we heard Blink 182.   This was the source of an episode in the respected FX Comedy, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, where the “Gang” forms a band called “Chemical Toilet”. Near as we can tell, they had one sloppy gig at Paddy’s Pub and broke up shortly after. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: It’s Always Sunny in…

Cherry Bomb

A prom night dumpster baby of a film, “Howard the Duck” gave us the Runaways inspired “Cherry Bomb”. Granted, it was a mess, as was the film, but we admit we have a thing for late 80’s Lea Thompson. Are we the only ones? Nah, couldn’t be.

Chief Kawanawanalea and his Royal Macadamia Nuts

From the underappreciated concept album (The Turtles present the Battle of the Bands) by the Turtles we have an albums where different “bands” appeared. This allowed the group to not only stretch their skills musically, as each “band” had a completely different sound and also showcase their humor. It was a cheap joke, a short song and it still makes a lot of people chuckle when they hear it. Amazingly if any of these “bands” make our Hall (not that we are expecting any of them too), we think it might be the fine Chief. The Bullet Points: Album Appeared:…

Chock Full O' Notes

We have no illusion that this a capella group from the News Radio’s lead’s College will get inducted, but when we have a quartet that has Dave Foley, David Cross and Bob Odenkirk as three quarters of the group that apparently played “BadgerJam 88”, we know we have comedic gold. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: News Radio (1998) Actors: David Foley David Cross Bob Odenkirk Brian Posehn Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: Come on, this is a combination of Mr. Show and the Kids in the Hall! Why you should not vote for…

Chris Cole

After his run as the replacement singer for Steel Dragon came to an end, it was time for Chris Cole to become introspective. Of course you do that in the only place possible, Seattle, where you get a haircut, wear a cardigan and whine in a coffee house. Somehow, we don’t think Chris Cole ever played arenas again. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Rock Star (2001) Actors: Mark Wahlberg (Chris Cole) Songs you might remember: Colorful Why you should vote for him: Because this is Dirk Diggler and he is bright shining star! Why you should not vote for them:…

Chris Gaines

This website almost went up without this one! When Country Music singer, Garth Brooks was legitimately one of the biggest singers in the United States, like most artists he wanted to explore his range. We imagine he felt pigeonholed, which is why he created “Chris Gaines” who was an alter ego from the Alternative Rock world. The music he created was mediocre, though he could have easily just released this under his own name rather than put on an emo wig and eyeliner. Incidentally, this experiment would mark the beginning of his decline. The Bullet Points: Album Appeared: In the…

Chuck Clarke & Lyle Rogers

The universally panned Ishtar (though it was not as bad as people thought) gave us the mega star combo of Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty who played Lyle Rogers and Chuck Clarke, two horrific songwriters who hope to be the next Simon and Garfunkel. The first act of the film where they are working on songs (written by Paul Williams) is actually amusing before it derails into a strange place where they are in Morocco and become part of a plot to overthrow the fictional country of Ishtar. The movie may have been awful, but in terms of the music…

Ciji Dunne

In the vanilla soap opera, Knots Landing, Ciji Dunne (Lisa Hartman) was destined to become a star, and did so with her equally nondescript version of music. If you are a fan of this show then in theory Dunne should be a lock. The interesting thing is though, for a show that lasted as long as Knots Landing did, we don’t know anybody who actually watched it. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Knots Landing (1982-83) Actors: Lisa Hartman Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for her: How about because in the 1980’s you found Lisa Hartman…

Circus Monkey

From the rarely viewed 1996 independent film, Bandwagon, we have a band that just wanted to “make it”. We see their trials and tribulations in this decent film, but they are here as the music created for the film (which like the film, was rarely heard) is actually decent. That alone earned them a spot on the ballot. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Bandwagon (1996) Actors: Lee Holmes (Tony Ridge, Guitar & Vocals) Matthew Hennessey (Charlie Flagg, Drummer) Kevin Corrigan (Wynn Knapp) Steve Parlavecchio (Eric Ellwood) Songs you might remember: We are actually assuming nobody remembers anything from this film.…

Citizen Dick

In a ballot that is filled with fascinating candidates, this could be the most intriguing of them all. The case for Citizen Dick from the Cameron Crowe’s grunge scored film, Singles is strong. First off, the band members (except for Matt Dillon) were musical gods, Pearl Jam, which for many is enough to induct them right there. Second they were big in Belgium!   The case against them is actually strong too; namely we never really saw much of them as an actual band and in the decent soundtrack from the movie, nothing was attributed to Citizen Dick. We know that…

Clarence Hilliard

From one of the ultimate cult films, “The World’s Greatest Sinner” we have a young man named Clarence Gilliard who realizes that Rock and Roll is power. He becomes a superstar and uses his new found fame to become a political icon and religious cult leader. It should be mentioned that this was the first film scored by Frank Zappa. This is one of those times when they say that a movie is ahead of its time; it is not an exaggeration. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: The World’s Greatest Sinner (1962) Actor: Timothy Carey Songs you might remember: The…

Clarence Walker

What do you mean Stuart Sutcliffe wasn’t the 5th Beatle? On Saturday Night Live we learned that Clarence Walker (Eddie Murphy) played saxophone for the Beatles (or so he claimed) in 1963 before being kicked out. We are suckers for everything that Murphy did on SNL (though not for anything he did in a fat suit), so we felt we had no choice but to nominate him for this.    The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Saturday Night Live (1984) Actor: Eddie Murphy Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for him: Everything Eddie touched on that show was…

Cody's Band (Roadhouse)

You have to forgive us as for a movie we have seen countless times, we have no idea what the name of the band was (or if there was one) in the ultimate guilty pleasure film, Road House. Let’s focus on what we do know: The band was played by a Canadian Blues Rock trio called the Jeff Healey Band, who did very well in Canada in the late 80’s and early 90’s. They sounded right for the part, and Healey was able to gain what we believe was his only acting role showing what he could do as a…

Connect 3

Sorry, we are a bit of a disadvantage here. We have never seen Camp Rock, nor do really intend to. What we know is that this was a monster hit for the Disney Channel and it happened at a time when the Jonas Brothers were never hotter. Is this a Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee? If any Boy Band has a shot: why not a top one with a successful pair of TV Movies? The Bullet Points: TV Movies Appeared: Camp Rock (2008) Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010) Actors: The Jonas Brothers (Shane, Jason &…

Connie White

She may not have been the most talented singer in “Nashville”, but she was the most glamorous. Actually, that was the point, as she may have been the rival to the main role of Barbara Jean; she was the one who would have dominated Us Weekly if this were set now. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Nashville (1975) Actor: Karen Black Songs you might remember: Memphis Rolling Stone Why you should vote for her: Black’s role was a little on the shallow side, but she played it well. Why you should not vote for her: Black, who was at the…

Conrad Birdie

Bye Bye Birdie made Ann Margaret a star and was one of the top teen comedies of the early 60’s. In the film, she is chosen to be the “last kiss” before teen idol, Conrad Birdie enters the Army as he was drafted. Clearly inspired by Elvis Presley’s actual draft years earlier, the film was well received, though it barely did anything for Jesse Pearson, who played the teen heartthrob. If that is the case, can this really be a serious contender? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Bye Bye Birdie (1963) Actor: Jesse Pearson Songs you might remember: One Last…

Cora Corman

The Britney Spears knockoff from the 2007 film, Music & Lyrics, Cora Corman (Haley Bennett) was the eccentric teen superstar who was on top of the musical world. In the film, she pairs with former 80’s has been, Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant) who pens for her a new song, which we assume will be a hit. This wasn’t a bad role, but we acknowledge that if anyone should get in from this film it should be “Pop”. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Music & Lyrics (2007) Actor: Haley Bennett Songs you might remember: Way Back Into Love Why you should…

Crazy Frog

If you have seen our Worst Songs of All Time, you would see what we really think of Crazy Frog, an Internet meme that went places that we wish never could take place. We have stated a lot of what we think on our Worst Songs list so repeating our opinion here doesn’t need to be done again, however we have to respect the fact that this generated a #50 Hit in the United States, and went to number one in many other countries. Maybe this is a legitimate candidate for the Hall!           The Bullet Points: Album Appeared: Crazy…

Creation

Musically, the audio output of Creation stunk. We were treated to only one disjointed attempt at Sunshine of Your Love, which calling it even an attempt is being generous. However, look at this stellar lineup? You have Seth Rogen as the lead singer, James Franco on guitar, Jason Segal on drums and the goalie from the Mighty Ducks is on bass. Even the groupies rocked with Busy Phillips and Linda Cardellini. Visually, this was a Mount Rushmore of awesome, but as the band was just so bad, how much chance do they have? We can’t wait to see the votes…

Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Gifted and Black

The Rutles famed manager, Leggy Mountbatten managed a band that had four names you might be familiar with. Originally the “Machismo Brothers”, they were renamed to cater to the emerging feminist movement to Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, Gifted and Black and recorded one album together and were known for their matching plaid jackets. Somehow, we think that Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young did just fine without Gifted and Black. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: All You Need is Cash (1978) The Fictitious Band: David Crosby Stephen Stills Graham Nash Neil Young Mike Gifted Frank Black Songs you might remember: None…

Crucial Taunt

Led by the delicious Cassandra Wong (Tia Carrere), Crucial Taunt was a featured band in Chicago’s Rock Club, The Gasworks. With a babe like Cassandra, naturally she caught the eye of Wayne Campbell, and we were treated to a few of her songs (which Carrere did sing). We can’t say that the music was that good, but they were allegedly signed to a recording contract at the end of the film, so that should mean something….or maybe it doesn’t. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Wayne’s World (1992) Actors: Tia Carrere (Cassandra Wong) George Foster Anthony Cox Mark Ferrari Songs you…

Crucifictorious

Somehow, this ballot needed a Christian Speed Metal band. That is exactly what we got when the future Dillon Panthers Place Kicker formed Crucifictorious. Somehow, we will never forget how they appeared in front of one person; but maybe they got better; then again, maybe not. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Friday Night Lights (2006-11) Actors: Jesse Plemons, Landry Clarke (Guitar and Vocals) Others Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: We can honestly say that nobody else sounds like they do on this ballot. Why you should not vote for them: They should have…
