Billy Mack

Billy Mack
From the excellent ensemble British Romantic Comedy, Love Actually, Bill Nighy played the only character with no obvious link to the others; the aging Rock Star, Billy Mack. For our money, Mack was by far the funniest character in the film, and we delighted watching him wave off political correctness with a charm that totally allows him to get away with it. He records a cover of the Troggs, “Love is All Around” (changing the word Love to Christmas) which his manager believes could be a hit, and pushes it to become the number one song in the U.K. for Christmas week; which is actually a big deal there.

We don’t think we are spoiling anything by telling you it was successful (perhaps his offer to sing it naked if it happened helped), and Nighy won the BAFTA Supporting Actor Award for his portrayal. We did see him sing (though briefly) which at least gives us a sound bite, which should help his case for induction.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Love Actually (2003)

Actor:
Bill Nighy

Songs you might remember:
Christmas is All Around

Why you should vote for him:
With this All Star cast, stealing a good chunk of the movie says A LOT!

Why you should not vote for him:
By Billy Mack’s own admission, the song isn’t good; actually he calls it crap.
