One of the universal truths in Hollywood was that Rhinestone was a terrible movie. Still, it did no damage to the career of its two stars Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone, though Stallone, who was the more experienced actor, was the worse of the two. In a plot that never should have been greenlit, Dolly Parton's character made a bet that she could turn anyone into a country star, and should she win, she would be let out of her contract to an urban cowboy joint in New York City. That person turned out to be NYC can driver, Nick Martinelli (Stallone), who was an oafish clod who hated country music and was tone-deaf. As you can imagine, somehow, he won the crowd allowed Dolly to win the bet, and at least she won something because no viewer did.
Oh…and there is no way that his singing would have warmed any crowd.
Allegedly Stallone passed up on Romancing the Stone and Beverly Hills Cop for this role.
