Saturday Night Live gave us some of the best comedic moments ever, one of which was the “More Cowbell” sketch. In it, the origin of “Don’t Fear the Reaper” by The Blue Oyster Cult was rewritten a little in that Gene Frenkle is introduced as the cowbell player on the song. This appears to be Frenkle’s only instrument, and legendary producer Bruce Dickinson states that he needs more cowbell. This encouragement leads to Frenkle giving the best performance of his life, and the sketch ends with an "in memoriam" to Frenkle when he died. Maybe he didn’t as he appeared with the Queens of the Stone Age years later.
