2023 Fictitious Rock and Roll Contributors -- Round 1

Kim MacAfee

Kim MacAfee
  • Contest: 2023 Fictitious Rock and Roll Contributors -- Round 1
  • Ann-Margaret was already known, but it was her role as Kim MacAfee in the film adaptation of “Bye Bye Birdie” that made her a bankable movie star. MacAfee was a massive fan of Conrad Birdie, the singer (who much lie Elvis Presley), who was drafted into the United States Army. Through a publicity stunt, she is chosen to kiss Birdie on live television. This results in an interesting pseudo-love triangle of which McAfee is the center of.

Whether or not you think this is worthy of the Contributor category on our Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can be debated, but it can't be disputed that this is not nearly the same movie without Ann-Margaret. Frankly, it probably would have never worked.
  • TV Show/Movie Appeared: Bye Bye Birdie (1964)
  • Actor/Actress: Ann-Margaret
  • Position Portrayed: Fan and marketing ploy.
  • Why you should vote:: This was her career-making performance, and it was good.
  • Why you should not vote:: She could be any other pretty fan.
