2022 Fictitious Rock and Roll Contributors -- Round 1
The corrupt business manager is reflected on screen, often mainly because it takes place regularly in real life. In “Blast-Off Girls," we have Boojie Baker, who is the main character of this 1967 exploitation film, and he is a band manager who finds talent to use, abuse, and siphon their income. Baker does find a young naïve group who he repackages, clouds their vision with excesses while bribing and blackmailing his group to the charts. Of course, the band in question doesn't receive any money from their success, and when they eventually figure out how to part ways with Baker, he is ready to begin the cycle again with someone else.
