2023 Fictitious Rock and Roll Contributors -- Round 1

Andy Travis

Andy Travis
  • Contest: 2023 Fictitious Rock and Roll Contributors -- Round 1
  • W.K.R.P. in Cincinnati certainly had a lot of unique characters, but they all couldn't be eccentric. You need a voice of reason, a head guard on the nut farm, and for W.K.R.P., you had Andy Travis, the station's Program Director.
Prior to his arrival to Ohio, Travis had a perfect record of taking radio stations to the top of their market. He wasn't successful at W.K.R.P. because, as DJ Venus Flytrap suggested was because he let himself become friends with them, which was undoubtedly accurate. Still, Travis would do his best to improve the lot of the new rock and roll station (including butting heads with the station owner, Mrs. Carlson), and when the show ended, he had brought them to #6 I the market.
As the show was unceremoniously unrenewed, our last view of Andy Travis was in a drunken stupor telling Mrs. Carlson that she stunk, this after she planned to change the format to all news.
We assume that Andy Travis would continue having a successful career in radio, but we know for sure that this role was the apex of Gary Sandy's career.

  • Why you should vote:: Travis really ran the station and deserved most of the credit for turning it around.
