  • One of only five male golfers who have won all five majors, Ben Hogan won 63 PGA tour events despite missing a plethora of time, first because of his service in World War II, and the second because of a car accident in 1949 that could have ended his career.



    On that foggy night, Hogan suffered a double fracture of the pelvis, a fractured collar bone, a left ankle fracture, and blood clots that could have proved fatal. Not only did Hogan recover, but he also had his best years after, winning five of his nine majors after the accident.



    Hogan proved to be invaluable to the community of golf by perfecting and working on his swing. Nobody in his day practiced more, and the work he did to improve his mechanics remain a textbook that other golfers have long since followed.



    We are proud to nominate Ben Hogan for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
