  • After competing in the 100 m Hurdles at the Seoul Olympics, Devers was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. As part of her treatment, she received radioactive iodine treatment, and a side effect caused blistering and swelling of her feet. That part of the treatment was discontinued, and she made a full recovery and won Silver in the 100 m hurdles at the 1991 World Championship.

Devers won her first Olympic Medal in Barcelona, capturing the 100 m, and would successfully defend it in the 1996 Games in Atlanta. Along the way, Devers struck gold in the 1993, 1995, and 1999 World Championships in the 100 m hurdles. She would overall win five Gold Medals in World Championship competition as well as three Olympic Golds.

We are proud to nominate Gail Devers for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
