Barry Bonds is a controversial figure, but at one time, he was the most feared hitter in the sport and was so for years.
Whether you loved him or hated him (and he didn’t care), Bonds set records that may never be broken. Seven MVPs, 73 single-season home runs, 762 home runs, and 2,558 walks are all records that could remain intact for a century. If you go by sabermetrics, Bonds’ 162.8 bWAR is the second-best of any position player in Major League history and fourth all-time.
Forgotten among his power skills as a San Francisco Giant, Bonds was an excellent fielder and baserunner when he was with the Pittsburgh Pirates. To date, he is the only player to have accumulated 500 home runs and 500 stolen bases. Nobody is even close.
It is his controversy with alleged PED use that have thus kept him out of the Baseball Hall of Fame, but baseball has always had its share of controversies.
