  • The Boston Celtics had a legacy of winning long before Larry Bird got there, but when you won as many the championships as they had, the bar is set pretty high. Bird not only cleared it, but he also set a new level for Celtics fans.

"Larry Legend" was an instant fan favorite in Boston, leading them to an NBA Championship in his third year as a pro. Bird made history as the first (and to date, only) forward to win the NBA MVP three years in a row and did so in a time when he won his second and third NBA Championship. Considered to be one best forwards of all-time, his success is only matched by his popularity.

Had back issues not forced him to retire in 1992, his playing career could have easily gained more accolades.

Bird would later become a successful Coach and Executive, and he is the only man to win the MVP, Finals MVP, All-Star Game MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.

We are proud to nominate Larry Bird for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
