  • A journeyman player in the minors, Earl Weaver, worked his way up the coaching ranks to become the skipper for the Baltimore Orioles in 1968. The O’s had not been much of a squad since their relocation from St. Louis as the Browns, but under Weaver, everything was set to change.

Weaver brought Baltimore to four American League Pennants from 1969 to 1979) and in 1970, Baltimore won it all, their first World Series Championship in their east coast home.

Known for his acrimonious relationship with umpires, Weaver was often disciplined but always entertaining. Beyond that, Weaver’s attention to strategy and defense helped bring a winning philosophy to an organization that had never experienced it before.

Weaver was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996.

We are proud to nominate Earl Weaver for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
