From 1904 to 1948, Candy Jim Taylor either played for, managed, or did both for over 25 segregated baseball teams, an incredible accomplishment that boggles the synapses of the brain.
A very good third baseman, Taylor had greater success as a manager, which he showcased with numerous teams in the Negro Leagues and beyond. Taylor won three Negro League Titles, the first occurring in 1928 with the St. Louis Stars. Over a decade later, he took the Homestead Grays to back-to-back titles in 1943 and 1944.
Taylor could have conceivably contributed more to the game, but he died suddenly in 1948 at the age of 64.
