  • Marv Levy was George Allen’s special teams' coach for both the Los Angeles Rams and Washington Redskins, and if Allen was the first NFL coach to focus on special teams, it was Levy who took it to the next level.

Levy was first a head coach in the Canadian Football League, taking the Montreal Alouettes to two Grey Cup wins. His work in Canada got him a job with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he had five uneventful seasons before being let go. After a year in the USFL, he had another opportunity with Buffalo, and the era of the master philosopher in Western New York began.

Levy assembled a powerful team, and while he was coaching the Bills (1986-97), only the San Francisco 49ers had a better record. He guided Buffalo to seven playoff appearances and four straight trips to the Super Bowl. The Bills did not win any of them, but they would not have gotten there without Levy.

We are proud to nominate Marv Levy for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
