  • Henry Iba developed a reputation for being one of the toughest coaches in sports, but he demanded perfection through repetition, and it generated results.

Iba began his coaching career at Northwest Missouri State in 1929, a stay that lasted four seasons before he had one year at Colorado. After the 1933-34 season, he joined Oklahoma A&M (which would later be Oklahoma State), where he coached for 36 years. Iba led the Cowboys to two NCAA Championships and 15 conference titles.

Internationally, Iba coached the United States in three Olympics, winning two Golds in 1964 and 1968.

Iba left behind a coaching tree that yielded Larry Brown, Bobby Knight and Eddie Sutton.

We are proud to nominate Henry Iba for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
