  • Jim Calhoun first coached Northeastern in 1972, where seven years later, he oversaw their promotion from Division II to Division I. Under Calhoun, the Huskies made the NCAA Tournament five times, including three straight, from 1984 to 1986. His work at Northeastern gained him attention from UConn, and he upgraded from one group of Huskies to another.

Calhoun won the NIT in 1988, would then bring the Huskies to the big dance, the NCAA Tournament, 18 times. Connecticut was not content just to make it, as Calhoun made it to the Final Four on four different occasions while winning the NCAA Tournament three times. Calhoun retired in 2012, leaving as the most successful men's basketball coach in Connecticut's history.

We are proud to nominate Jim Calhoun for the United States Athletic Hall of Fame.
