During the early 60s many music fans were divided musically into either the Beatles camp or the Rolling Stones camp and they despised the other fans. Nowadays, that seems a little silly, but it wasn’t that long ago that a couple of us at NIHOF remembered that the Metal community had fans divided into the Metallica and Megadeth camps as well.
When Dave Mustaine left (or was kicked out of) Metallica, he formed Megadeth which along with his former band became known as one of the “Big Four” of Thrash Metal. Megadeth kept to the Thrash playbook with a powerful sound and became very popular among the Metal set. They were as controversial as they were successful, as they were riddled with drug abuse, controversial lyrics/moments, and a seemingly never-ending feud with Metallica. Still together and recording and possessing a huge fan base, Megadeth may be an outside shot to be the next Metal act to get in; especially if the Hall wants to honor Mustaine who was not inducted with Metallica.
