Hangin’ Tough
Highest Billboard Position:
#1 in 1989

There were two types of young teenagers in 1989: those that loved New Kids on the Block, and those with penises.  NKOTB as they would come to be known sold out countless arenas but were often ridiculed by their haters for their lightweight music.  Possibly, no greater evidence of that was their smash hit, Hangin’ Tough.

Ok, we are sure that they got tired of hearing about their squeaky clean image and being trashed by every publication, but this was their response?  Lame lyrics, a craptastic beat and perpetually whining?  Boy Bands after this basically learned and embraced what they were (for the most part) and stopped exclaiming “We’re Rough” in the middle of a song and just accepted that they were polarizing.
