Jan Hrdina was chosen in the 5th Round in 1995 by the Pittsburgh Penguins, and after playing in Junior for another year and the minors for two, he was ready to debut in the NHL in 1998.
As a rookie, he scored 42 Points and finished sixth in Calder Trophy voting. The native of Czechoslovakia remained consistent, posting similar production, and he would put forth his best individual numbers in 2001-02 with 24 Goals, 33 Assists, and 57 Points. Hrdina was traded during the following season to the Phoenix Coyotes, and as a Penguin he scored 227 Points.
