While many Boston Bruins were known for their toughness, Johnny Bucyk was known for his class. A two time winner of the Lady Byng Trophy, Bucyk is the second longest tenured Bruin, and is second all-time in scoring for the franchise.
Bucyk was never a flashy player, but he was very much a team player, and was always in the shadow of teammates like Orr and Esposito, and as such, the dependable scorer never seemed to receive the due he should have. Saying that, this was likely something that he never complained about and anyone who saw him play knew just how good Johnny Bucyk was.
The Hockey Hall of Fame enshrined Bucyk in 1981, a year after his number 9 was retired.
