Let’s make sure we have this correct. There is a nominee on this ballot that has Christopher Walken as a Chinese criminal boss with Table Tennis relations? Come on, how do you not vote for this?

Kevin Hart may be the black Vince Vaughn. We know their styles are completely different, but when you watch a Vince Vaughn film you know exactly what he is playing, regardless what his role is. The same goes for Kevin Hart. In Grudge Match, Hart played Dante Slate Jr., the son of a crooked boxing promoter, who is following, though somewhat unsuccessful to date in his father’s footsteps. Hart gives us a few laughs, which is what you would want from him, but is this worth a nomination? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Grudge Match (2013) Actor: Kevin Hart Role Portrayed: Boxing Promoter Why You Should Vote For Him: Hart was funny in the role, and showed just the right amount of empathy to make him likable. Why You Should Not Vote For Him: It is Kevin Hart acting like Kevin Hart. {youtube}

There haven’t been many television series about sports focusing on a female character, and in Necessary Roughness, we have a unique one where we have Dani Santino, a divorcee who become a therapist for a professional football team. It would become a minor hit for the USA Network, though it was more about her drama than anything that occurred on the field. This wasn’t a bad show, but did it make enough of a dent to be considered a legit possibility to generate an inductee. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Necessary Roughness (2011-13) Actor: Callie Thorne Role Portrayed: Sports Therapist Why You Should Vote For Her: We’ll say this. This was a very unique character and one we have never seen before. Why You Should Not Vote For Her: Was this a big enough show? {youtube}

In 1976, Charlton Heston starred as Captain Peter Colby, where he leads the investigation to stop a sniper threatening the Super Bowl. This is not exactly a sports film, and really a Charlton Heston action vehicle, but we have far bigger stretches than this on the ballot. Besides, this is Moses!

We can say this about Hang Time, at least the Head Coach wasn’t presented as a moron, as usually adults were presented as inferior intellects on these teen sitcoms. We also liked that Coach Bill Fuller was played by former NBA star, Reggie Theus. Saying all that, this was about it as though this program lasted five years (Theus was only there for the forst three), it was a forgettable program overall with no real legacy. Incidentally, Theus left the show and was replaced by Dick Butkus, who we far preferred in Miller Lite commercials. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Hang Time (1995-98) Actor: Reggie Theus Role Portrayed: High School Basketball Coach Why You Should Vote For Him: Yeah, he was a little wooden, but he was presented as an admirable character. Why You Should Not Vote For Him: Were any of the people who was watching this show, watching for Theus? {youtube}

From the brilliant “one and done” series, Freaks and Geeks, we have stereotypical gym teacher, Coach Fredricks, who we see a little more of when he starts to date the mom of one of the geeks; his worst athletic student. Just being on this show is enough to secure a nomination, but lets add to it that this guy was also Biff Tannen! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Freaks and Geeks (1999-2000) Actor: Thomas F. Wilson Role Portrayed: High School Gym Teacher Why You Should Vote For Him: If you don’t, you better make like a tree and get out of here. Why You Should Not Vote For Him: It’s a gym teacher. Does it matter that this Biff Tannen? {youtube}

We never really thought about it but is Cameron Tucker’s ascension to High School Football Coach a pivotal movement for gay acceptance in sports? Ok, maybe we are going a little far here, but whatever the sexual orientation of Cameron, he is a great character in a great show, and he was a winning coach to boot! The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Modern Family (2009-) Actor: Eric Stonestreet Role Portrayed: High School Football Coach Why You Should Vote For Him: Well, this is groundbreaking when you think about it. Why You Should Not Vote For Him: Football in all honesty is barely relevant to the show, despite his occupation.

Although the player who was the focus of the NFL draft in the Kevin Costner film, Draft Day, was the University of Wisconsin Quarterback, it was a Linebacker from Ohio State who would go first overall and be the real (or so we are led to believe) prize in the draft. Vontae Mack (Chadwick Boseman) lobbied hard to be a Cleveland Brown (really?) and through footage and persistence he convinces Crash Davis, Ray Kinsella, Billy Chapel, the Bodyguard guy Sonny Weaver Jr. (Kevin Costner) to do just that. Hey, this guy moonlit as Jackie Robinson so let’s agree that they saw a real athlete here! The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Draft Day (2013) Actor: Chadwick Boseman Position Played: Linebacker Played for: Ohio State Why You Should Vote For Him: This was the guy who went number one in the draft! Why You Should Not Vote For Him: How the hell do we know what he did in the pros? {youtube}

For better or for worse, we have to respect anyone who is a World Heavyweight Champion in the Rocky Universe. Union Kane would challenge a very disoriented Rocky Balboa when he came back from Russia from his fight against Ivan Drago. The fight never materialized due to Balboa’s retirement, but Kane did win a tournament to become the vacant champion; a belt he held until Tommy Gunn destroyed him. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Rocky V (1990) Actor: Michael Williams Why You Should Vote For Him: There really is not a good one. He was a background figure despite being a world champion. Why You Should Not Vote For Him: When we did see him fight, he got his ass handed to him Tommy Gunn. {youtube}

Sometimes we are convinced that Dreamworks can do no wrong. In the cute animated film, Turbo, we meet an ordinary garden snail that has a need for speed, and through a freak accident is able to achieve just that and gets to compete at the Indianapolis 500. Seriously, did you ever think when you were young that animation would come this far and would suck you in this much? Honestly, we think we have a sleeper candidate here. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Turbo (2013) Actor: Ryan Reynolds Why You Should Vote For Him: Well, he does win the biggest auto race in the United States after all! (unless you think that it is Daytona) Why You Should Not Vote For Him: Should we play the cartoon card here? {youtube}
