The time that Scherzer has spent in Washington have been absolutely incredible with two of them being Cy Young Award winning with three more top-five finishes, four if you incude the year he was traded.
Scherzer had already won a Cy Young as a member of the Detroit Tigers and in his first year in Washington, he finished fifth in voting while leading the National League in SO/BB. In 2016, Scherzer would become one of the few hurlers to win a Cy Young in both leagues as he would win 20 Games while leading the NL in WHIP and SO/BB. 2017 would see him repeat his Cy Young win and he would become the tenth player in Major League history to win three Cy Youngs. In 2018 he was the runner-up for the Cy Young while finishing first in Wins and he has been the Strikeouts leader three years straight from 2016 to 2019. Finishing in third place in Cy Young voting in 2019, Scherzer would anchor the Nationals to an improbable run in the Playoffs, and helped the organization win their first World Series.
After a good 2020 in the COVID-shortened year, Scherzer continued to do what he always did, which was dominate. He went to his seventh All-Star Game, but the Nats were no longer contenders, and a fire sale began. With Scherzer in his contract year, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers before the trading deadline, ending the run of the greatest Pitcher in franchise history. He left D.C. with a 92-47 Record, 1,610 Strikeouts, and holds the team's all-time record in WHIP (0.962) and SO/BB (5.75)
