Honestly, this was a bit of a surprise as when you think of the career of Rickey Henderson it is the Oakland A’s that you think of as this is where he played in four separate stints and won the American League MVP. He was however an excellent player for the New York Yankees for and half seasons during his prime, where he put up individual numbers good enough to land him here.
Henderson would finish third in MVP voting in 1985 where he led the AL in Runs Scored and Stolen Bases with 24 Home Runs and a .314/.419/.516 Slash Line. The eccentric Outfielder was named an All Star every full season in New York and while he was not always known for his defensive abilities his best seasons with the glove took place in the Bronx. As a Yankee he had a bWAR of 30.6 an excellent number for only 596 Games and much higher than many other prominent Yankees proving his worth here.
If you don’t believe us as, ask Rickey. He’ll tell you!
