When Hillbilly Jim debuted in the WWE, he adopted the country bumpkin gimmick that has always been a wrestling staple. Jim got massively over, and maybe it was because he looked the part so well without ever insulting the intelligence of an audience even during the kayfabe era. The large hillbilly got injured early in his WWE run but as a manager of a new collection of Hillbillies, he became more popular than ever. The Hillbilly Jim character did not pick up a lot of big wins and became best used as a vehicle to get heels over during his time in Stamford. He may not have been a main event talent, but he didn’t have to be to become a superstar in wrestling.
