On the surface, Joost was an all-glove no-hit Shortstop, as he had an excellent defensive year leading the American League Shortstops in Range Factor per Game and Putouts, and he also struck out the most. His .206 Batting Average wasn't good, but beyond that, he had an On Base Percentage of .348. From 1948 to 1952, Joost put forth the best baseball of his career. He reduced his strikeouts, and he was able to raise his Batting Average to more respectable levels, peaking with a .289 season in 1951. In four of those five years, he was in the top ten in On Base Percentage, with two of those seasons saw him go over .400. He was also a two-time All-Star (1949 & 1952).
His play would decline by 1953, and he was released after the 1954 season. With the Athletics, Joost had 840 Hits with a .392 On Base Percentage, and in 1995, he was inducted into the Philadelphia Baseball Wall of Fame.
