Calhoun was so huge (pardon the pun) that at one time he was likely the only wrestler that a non fan would be aware of. His persona was that of a likable “country boy” bedecked in a plain t-shirt and overalls. This was the template used for the popular hillbilly wrestlers that emerge later. He may not have been the best worker (though he was certainly capable) but he was one of the first wrestlers who provided the entertainment aspect in the ring. Calhoun plied his trade for the WWF in the 70’s where he won his only major title in the Tag Team division, but Calhoun was such a star that he never needed a belt to be a star. Considering how Calhoun finished off his career in the 70’s for the WWF, his shot at induction is actually decent.
