We have to admit that we hate it when current WWE performers talk about becoming “the Marty Jannetty” of their team. Jannetty may not have had a career that came close to what Shawn Michaels did, but honestly how many could?

Like Shawn, Marty Jannetty was a quick worker whose ability to sell and fly and few equals. They called the Rockers tag team specialists and their double team abilities put the Rock and Roll Express to shame. Jannetty would go solo after Michaels heel turn but he just couldn’t generate the same level of charisma that his old partner did. He could still perform in the ring and was still one of the better workers, but it wasn’t the same and with outside issues he wasn’t performing on a consistent basis.

If he was on the main roster consistently, he could have had a far greater career than he did have. He was an excellent worker and deserves a lot better than being used as a punch line on WWE television. There are some wrestlers who “deserve” that accolade; Marty Jannetty is not that guy.
