Fats Domino

The early days of Rock and Roll brought the smooth New Orleans R&B of Fats Domino who was one of Rock’s early stars.  Domino’s hits have a timeless quality which is a rarity from Rock songs of that era.  A major staple of the R&B charts, Fats Domino is a definite must for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Inducted in 1986.  From New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A.

Fats Domino also has a pretty good claim to that ever-elusive animal: the "first 'rock and roll' record." His "The Fat Man" was released in 1949, and it previewed the style he made famous in the 1950s. And with his producer and arranger Dave Bartholomew, Domino lent an air of sophisticati on to early rock and roll, which was being viewed as primitive "jungle music."

One of the first inductees and deservedly so. His legacy seems to be waning from it's heydey in the 70's but it shouldn' t be. He was one of the greatest and most significatn artists of any genre and helped build the template of Rock.
