Chuck Berry

The 50’s Rock superstar was required listening to those who followed.  The endless list of musicians who followed Chuck Berry who cited him as a major influence is only exceeded by those who blatantly ripped him off.  No compilation of 50’s music is complete without tracks from Chuck Berry.

The Rolling Stones are inconceivabl e without Chuck Berry. He is the architect of rock and roll.

No 11-minute crunchy guitar solos surrounded by a big guitar sound, no flowing, deep, spiritual lyrics, no big hair. How can he be considered rock and roll?

I think one can argue that outside of Elvis that nobody deserves to be in the hall as much as Chuck Berry. And then again some would argue that he would even exceed Presley' s qualificatio ns. He did write how own music after all and his guitar lick for Johnny B. Goode is probably the most important guitar riff in rock history. All others are ripoffs from this one. A black man sining rock and roll and tearing it up with the guitar and actually becoming popular with the kids. Blasphemy. No wonder he wa public enemy number one. irony of ironies. Berry's only number one is My Dingaling from the early seventies. Put him up there on the Mt. Rushmore of Rock and never forget how important he really was.
