It is inarguable that the Blues are one of the most important genres in modern music. It has been a huge part of developing Rock and Roll, and the amount of artists who have looked to interpret the Blues and make it their own are uncountable. Most are unsuccessful at putting any kind of unique spin on it; Canned Heat is not one of those bands.

Founded by a pair of Blues enthusiasts, Canned Heat would eventually go through a football team’s worth of members but not before they created a Blues sound that was truly innovative. Staying true to the main vein of Blues, Canned Heat created an updated sound that was essentially “Boogie Blues”. They were able to bring a Blues style that appealed to the hippie population while still keeping the respect of traditional Blues followers. Canned Heat managed to have a pair of hits that are still well known today; though it may not be enough to help them “boogie” into the Hall.
