246. Ted Nugent

One of the criticisms of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is that some of the potential inductees to the Hall may be considered more because of their draw at the ceremony as opposed to their music. There are many whose induction speech might bring tears to eyes. Somehow, we don’t think that Ted Nugent is one of those artists.

When the world first saw the Motor City Madman it was as the lead guitarist of the Amboy Dukes. The straight laced guitar virtuoso was easily the breakout star and achieved far greater fame as a solo artist. Nugent’s brash nature and wild persona combined with his penchant for loud over the top guitar playing made him a surefire draw for the Hard Rock and Heavy metal set. His anthems rocked through arenas to high school smoker’s pits and despite his staunch anti drug stance, his legion of fans elevated him to a god like status. Nugent has a very solid career, but his super conservatism and hard line NRA politics may prevent a nervous Hall committee as maybe putting a live microphone in front of Nugent is not the best idea.
