228. The Stranglers

As we look over our list we are a little overwhelmed with the amount of bands that flew the Punk label. Of course when looking at the Stranglers we are not sure what genre they were officially labeled as they seem to effortlessly shift between many musical styles.

Just what were the Stranglers? They were originally a Pub Rock band that became a Proto Punk band, that embraced Punk than New Wave than basically whatever genre they felt like playing. They were raunchy and wild and though they seemed to be following whatever musical trend was popular they had no issue making that musical style seem uniquely their own. The Stranglers racked up multiple hits in the United Kingdom, though their lack of American success will hamper their chances for the Hall.
