68. Foreigner

Previous entries discussed the maligned genre of “Arena Rock” which although produced many successful acts has become synonymous with soulless music devoid of any true Rock and Roll spirit. That description always seemed harsh as any band who could sell out an arena has some merit too them. Anyways, we will let some other website debate that. One of the bands with the Arena Rock tag was Foreigner whose early albums were a little better than they got credit for.

Depending on what country they were in, the name Foreigner fit, as the band was the rare combination of British and American musicians. From the late 70’s to early 80’s, Foreigner released a series of albums that sold well and which yielded numerous hits that remain Classic Rock staples today. The chances for Foreigner to get inducted are likely slim as Arena Rock has not been embraced the Hall. Unless one of their brethren gets in, they will likely be always on the outside looking in.

Please induct Foreigner including Lou Gramm into the Music Hall of Fame. They were and are a great band with many hits. We love their
songs and grew up listening to them. Many other bands have been inducted and are not even half as good as Foreigner. They certainly do deserve this honor. It would make us so happy! Thank you for your time and consideratio n.

Now that Journey is in hopefully this will open the door for Journey! There definitely the 2nd of the Arena Rock bands that should get in! There deserving.

Their first album came out about the same time as Boston's first album did. Just like a lot of other bands in the RRHoF, Foreigner has their own very distinctive sound that is fronted by the "off the chart" pipes that Lou Gramm has/had. They are very overdue to get in and should've been in a LONG time ago!!

Foreigner were as tawdry and overhyped as Journey, and just as talentless.

This is one of the few bands that I initially liked enough to purchase their album and then decided they BLOW. How could I have been deceived that bad?

I LOVE Foreigner, and I think branding them as "Corpor ate Rock" or "Arena Rock" or "Manufa ctured Rock" is just plain wrong. Foreigner is a ROCK band, plain and simple, and they totally ROCK! Heck, I got into Foreigner *before* I got into Led Zeppelin, and I'm not ashamed to admit that. Their recorded output speaks for itself, but especially the classic first four albums, and they have the big hits and huge album sales to back them up. These songs are awesome rockers that still get heavy radio airplay, and, lest we forget, Lou Gramm is a phenomenal singer. This band has definitely left their mark in Rock music history. To NOT have Foreigner in the RnR Hall Of Fame is a disgrace. So PUT THEM IN!

Okay I will admit Foreigner got a little soft as they progressed (see Journey) but if you were around when those first two albums came out then you know how rocking hard they were. They were cutting edge rock and roll for the late 70's. Sure they ae arena rock because they were popular enough to sell out arenas! The problem with the Hall is they take into account what an artist became! I would probably not put them in for anyting after four but before then they wer the antithesis of what hard rock was! So they stayed around a bit too long. Don't hate thme for being popular and putting out what the people wanted to hear. Can you see the direction the Police were going with Synchronicit y? and nobdoy blames them for that. Or who knows what would have happened with Nirvana? And btw talk about legacy. they are still rocking and yes putting out albums.
