At some point we will make a list of the worst band names in musical history, and believe us that a band name of Wang Chung (especially when the group is two English white guys) will be near the top of the list. It is especially bad, when a poorly named band refers to their name as a euphemism for fun.
The 80’s get cracked for being musically weak, but the reality is this could be attached to any decade depending on what artists you are looking at. In regards to the Reagan era, Wang Chung was one of those artists you refer to if you are in the “that decade sucks” musically camp. The music was dull and generic, yet they somehow found an audience and a very large hit with “Everybody Have Fun Tonight”. Generally, songs about just having fun are simple, and honestly when singing of just fun do you really want to have anything even remotely deep? With that being accurate, must you refer to yourselves as “fun”? The band asks everyone to “Wang Chung” tonight, which just asks for horrible double entendres. This self important doctrine raises other questions as to what “Wang Chunging” means to us…..which as best as we can figure is just sucking (and no we are not going for a double entendre).
