This is one of the days that we look forward to every year at Notinhalloffame.com. Today, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, announced their fifteen nominees for this year’s Class. As always, we expect that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will generate controversy, which is what they do best.
The fifteen nominees in order of our rank are as follows:
#2 Kraftwerk
The Germans are back as a nominee for the third time, and again we ask if they care, or of even the fans care. We appreciate how the Hall looks at the influential nature of this group, but will this translate this year? On behalf of those at Notinhalloffame.com, we certainly hope so!
#5 The Smiths
Morrissey, Johnny Marr and company have earned their first nomination, and are the representative of late 1980’s British Alternative. This could have gone to the Cure or to New Order, but we have to hope that they get in with the hope that this paves the way for the others.
#11 Stevie Ray Vaughn
Well, it’s about time! Every year, Mr. Vaughn jumps up on the rankings, and all this without a nomination. Here it is, and many supporters of the contemporary Blues are rejoicing.
#12 N.W.A.
Well, we would have bet our house that the top Hip Hop/Rap Group not yet in, would have been nominated and based on the lack of contemporaries nominated this HAS to be their year.
#20 Green Day
Critical and commercial darlings, Green Day make the ballot on their first year of eligibility. Based on everything we know of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is there anyone who thinks they won’t get in immediately?
#35 Nine Inch Nails
The forefront of the Industrial movement, Trent Reznor has secured a nomination on his first year on the ballot. Does this mean that NIN will make another step down the Downward Spiral?
#38 Lou Reed
Is this because the front man of the super-popular Velvet Underground passed away this year? Lou Reed has been nominated before on his solo merit, though it appeared that this wasn’t going to happen. Is this a token nomination out of respect, perhaps?
#51 War
They have been here before, yet this is a band that although has been at the dance, never seems to get picked. They could get chosen for the Hall, they could get overlooked and would anyone really notice? Let’s be honest and say probably not.
#56 The Spinners
Philly Soul Represent! Seriously, if we did not own this website, there is a distinct possibility that we would be the ones championing this induction. They have been here before, but here we are again, trying to do what is right via Detroit and Philadelphia. Seriously, does it get more Rock and Roll than those two cities?
#89 Chic
Dear God, here we go again! Nile Rodgers and company are nominated again for what will probably be another elimination. Does he deserve this Susan Luccissm again? We don’t think so, but here we are again!
#114 Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Yep, the brunette mullet is back, and why not, as she is a darling of what the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame represents. Seriously, can you name a “Black Heart”, and do you care? No matter, as Jett is as Rock and Roll as they come, and that does matter here!
#218 Bill Withers
Ain’t no sunshine when it’s gone. Bill Withers is nominated for the first time since eligible, and is he taking another spot or is it justified? Not so easy is it!
#234 The Marvelettes
We can’t say that this is a group that we though we be here at the end, but here we are wondering if this is a Motown group that should be inducted. Regardless, this is a genre of music that still has more representation left so why not this group?
#280 The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Yep. We admit we are not overly familiar with this group, but here we are with a potential nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Somehow, they are nominated here again, but do they have what it takes to be nominated again? We don’t think that they do.
#383 Sting
Seriously? With all of those who are eligible for the RRHOF, Sting is a nominee? Did we watch a late Friends episode perhaps? My God, this could very well be the worst Finalist for the RRHOF.
The obvious snubs are Deep Purple, Chicago, Yes, Jethro Tull and anyone else who flies the banner for Progressive Rock.
We have given you our opinion of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Finalists for this year, so we are eager to hear your thoughts.
