Regular visitors to notinhalloffame.com know that we are slowly working on the top 50 of every major team in the NHL, NBA, NFL, and MLB. Once that is done, we will examine how each team honors its past players, coaches, and executives. Eventually, we will do the same with the NCAA. As such, it is important to us that the University of Utah will be inducting Eric Weddle into its Ring of Honor.
The ceremony will take place on September 12 at the Utes’ home game against Arkansas.
Weddle became one of the finest defensive players in school history, winning Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006 and All-American honors in 2006. He also played a large part in Utah’s undefeated 2004 season, where they qualified for a BCS bowl (Fiesta), and in games he played, the Utes went 37-12 with a perfect 4-0 bowl record.
Statistically, Weddle had 18 interceptions, and his versatility saw him accrue 823 All-Purpose Yards through his work as a returner and rusher. Weddle went on to play 14 seasons in the NFL, accruing 29 picks with six Pro Bowls while playing for San Diego, Baltimore, and the Los Angeles Rams, where he won a Super Bowl.
Weddle is the fourth man to enter Utah’s Ring of Honor.
