gold star for USAHOF

25. Lowell MacDonald

25. Lowell MacDonald

Lowell MacDonald was claimed by the Los Angeles Kings in the Intra-League Draft, and realistically, there was no reason to believe that when the Penguins chose him that he would be a productive player in the NHL.  That being said, his was the strange expansion world of the 1970s, and that is precisely what he would become.

MacDonald was not much of a statistical juggernaut as a King, but after overcoming cartilage issues, he would emerge as an upper-end scorer for a few seasons.  For his return, the Left Wing would win the Bill Masterton Trophy in 1973, which was the same year that he went to his first All-Star Game.  That year, he scored 75 Points.

MacDonald was an All-Star the year after and would put up a career-best of 82 Points. He followed that up with a pair of 60 Point years.

Overall, Lowell MacDonald had 306 Points in 328 Games for a very nice Points per Game Average of .93.
