gold star for USAHOF

24. Janne Niinamaa

24. Janne Niinamaa

One of the best blueliners ever to come out of Finland, Janne Niinamaa, would spend six and a half seasons with the Edmonton Oilers (1998-03).

Niinamaa was traded from the Philadelphia Flyers late in the 1997-98 season, and he continued his work as a big offensive minded Defenseman.  The Finnish Defenseman was steady on the power play, and he would have two campaigns with the Oilers where he exceeded 40 Points.

He would score 188 Points over his time in Edmonton, and he should be held in higher regard, but because his tenure in Northern Alberta happened in a down period for the team, he is not as remembered as much as he should be.
