Paul Coffey

Paul Coffey
Paul Coffey was the most gifted offensive Defenseman of the 1980’s. Five times that decade, he would hit the 100 point mark, including four 30 goal seasons. His dominance would show in his trophy room with a pair of Norris Trophies (he would win a third in 1995) and seven All Star Team selections, with again another in that 94-95 campaign. Coffey was most known for his initial run with the Edmonton Oilers, where he won the Cup three times with the dynamic Oilers squads.

After Edmonton, Coffey went from Gretzky to Lemieux and won another Cup in Pittsburgh. He would thereafter begin bouncing around the NHL and though he was not the player he was, he was still very good, and won his third Norris while a member of Detroit. He was described by his peers as one of the best two way players ever, and though his profile was very high, we can imagine it would have been higher had he spent most of his career with one team like Ray Bourque, who was inducted into the Hall the same year.
