Viachevslav Fetisov

Fetisov however ached to play in the National Hockey League and even threatened to quit the Red Army over it. As the Soviet Union was undergoing Glasnost, the Soviets worked out where Fetisov and other players were able to enter the NHL as long as they continued to play for the national team. Fetisov became one of the top Russians in the NHL and he acclimated brilliantly to the North American game where after playing for New Jersey he became a two time Cup winner with the Detroit Red Wings. He would later become an Assistant Coach with the Devils and win a third Cup. His induction showed that the Hall was respectful of overall accomplishments as his work in the Soviet Union was necessary for him to get included into the hallowed institution.
