Vic Hadfield had a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde career in the National Hockey League. In his early years, Hadfield was an enforcer who, in the 1963-64 season, led the league in Penalties in Minutes. While he performed that role admirably, he would be placed on a line later in the decade with Rod Gilbert and Jean Ratelle to form the “Goal a Game” line, and his playmaking skills would come to the forefront.
The threesome would become extremely popular on Broadway, and Hadfield had an incredible 1971-72 season, being named a Second Team All-Star and recording 50 Goals, which was enough for second place. Internationally, he would do himself no favors by leaving Team Canada during the ’72 Summit Series after learning he was unlikely to see any ice time, yet he was still revered in New York City.
Overall, Hadfied would be named to two All-Star teams and scored 712 Points.
