But I am honestly struggling to come up with names here. Maybe Darryl or Spheniscus have some ideas? Otherwise even if we came up with twenty or thirty artists, it would probably just be easier to edit the top 500 by adding and removing.
I also don't think people are going to read through a list of a 1000 artists. At least not in this current structure.
That's a good evaluation from Darryl last year. If this list ever does get to 1000, it's likely just going to creep there with the additions of newly eligible artists over the years and not from 500 more we think of that are pre 25 years ago.
I endorse an alphabetical tab at some point. It'll make things so much easier for people stopping by to see where their favorite artist is ranked.
Yes, there would be a lot of newer acts in it i think. I would wager more than most people would think. Hell, there are a lot of grunge acts alone that would jump in to that half of the 1,000.
I find it unfathomable that of the 500+ existing entries here, "Weird Al" Yankovic doesn't yet have one. Granted, he's much more famous for his parodies of other people's music than he is for his original material, but the man's been writing amazing stuff, releasing charting songs, performing on tour, doing movies and TV, writing books, directing videos for other artists, and much more, for over 35 years. For the last two decades, his songs have been virtually the only music with any humorous content that mainstream radio or video channels will ever play outside the context of the "morning shows." The man's an institution and deserves to be in the Hall.
I love Weird Al and if he doesn't have a spot on this list then I'm all for him getting one. Though I do wonder if his induction would just end up alienating artists. Granted Al has plenty of friends within the business and I'm sure some of them wouldn't mind his induction, but I could see the headlines to articles focusing on his induction over the likes of Deep Purple, Chicago, or Soundgarden.
If the Monkees ever beat the critics who say they weren't a true band and get inducted, it might open the door for someone like Weird Al.
This isn't the first time that Mr. Yankovic has been suggested here. Gentleman, when we expand, I can assure you that he will get a slot, and if the votes come in the way you suspect he will move up quickly.
