Despite being in his early 30s when he arrived in the Steel City, Johnson would have his most productive stint in football. The Fullback, who had already proven himself a spectacular blocker, showed off more of his ball-carrying skills in Pittsburgh. After two good years, Johnson went to his first Pro Bowl since his rookie campaign, and he repeated that honor over the next two seasons. Johnson rushed over 1,000 Yards in both 1962 and 1964, but his health ran out in 1965, as he was limited to a meager 11 Yards that year. He retired after playing one final year in football as a Houston Oiler.
As a Steeler, Johnson had 5,195 Yards From Scrimmage with 32 Touchdowns. He was chosen for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987, and it was arguably the time he spent in Pittsburgh that earned Johnson a bust in Canton. Johnson would also be a member of the first class of the Steelers Hall of Honor.
