After a slow rookie year, Smith became the starting Left Defensive End, a position he held until 2008. In that eight-year run, Smith was a Pro Bowler in the 2004 season and was an integral part of their two Super Bowl wins in the 2000s. Smith was the type of player who may not have excelled at one skill, but he was also a player with no discernable weakness making him a coveted asset.
Smith's injuries rendered his last three seasons ineffective, but he was able to complete his career in 2011 in a Pittsburgh uniform. Smith's career totals saw him amass 44.0 Sacks, 84 Tackles for Loss, and 481 Combined Tackles.
