Cooper Kupp showed up as a third-round pick out of Eastern Washington in 2017, a school that doesn’t exactly flood the league with stars. The Rams still liked what they saw. He made the All-Rookie team with a solid 869 yards, then got hurt and missed half of 2018. By 2019, he was healthy again and topped 1,100 yards for the first time. 2020 dipped a little, but he was already a reliable piece of the offense—precise routes, soft hands, and the kind of receiver who kept drives alive even when the numbers weren’t flashy.

Everything changed when Matthew Stafford arrived in 2021. Kupp became the clear favorite target overnight. He won the receiving Triple Crown with 145 catches, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns, numbers that still look absurd. First-Team All-Pro and Offensive Player of the Year followed. In the playoffs, he was even better, hauling in 33 passes for 478 yards. In Super Bowl LVI, he caught the game-winning touchdown from Stafford and walked off with the Super Bowl MVP. For one season he was, without much argument, the best wide receiver in the league.

Then the drop-off hit. 2022 was a mess for everyone in Los Angeles. The Rams finished with a losing record, and Kupp spent half the year on the injured list. When he returned in 2023, rookie Puka Nacua had already become the primary option. Kupp was still productive in stretches, but the role had shifted. 2024 brought another 700-yard season, useful but no longer dominant. The chemistry with Stafford was still there on certain throws, yet the volume and the big plays belonged to someone else.

The Rams released him in the 2025 offseason after eight years. With Los Angeles, he finished with 7,776 receiving yards and 57 touchdowns. The peak was one of the great individual seasons by a receiver in recent memory. The years around it were more ordinary, marked by injuries and a changing offense. What remains is the memory of a precise, dependable pass catcher who had one perfect year when everything lined up and helped the Rams win a Super Bowl.
