In the first three seasons of Humphries’ career, he was a backup in Washington, and in 1991 he never played at all. The Redskins dealt him to the San Diego Chargers, where he won the starting job in 1992, and despite a negative TD-INT Ratio (16-18), he threw for 3,356 Yards and took San Diego to the playoffs.
Two years later, he threw for 17 TDs and 3,209 Yards and had a great post-season leading the Chargers to a surprising Super Bowl appearance. The Chargers lost to San Francisco, but Humphries did what no other San Diego QB had done.
Humphries had another good season, but a series of concussions would pile upon him, and he was forced to retire in 1997. With the Chargers, Humphries had 16,085 Passing Yards with 85 Touchdowns and 73 Interceptions. He would enter the Chargers Hall of Fame in 2002.
